Baptism and Thanksgiving

Baptism is when we welcome someone – young or old – into the family of the church and commit them to following Jesus for the rest of their life. It is a joyful occasion but also a solemn one where important promises are made, either by the person themselves or the parents and godparents who care for them.

A Thanksgiving Service is when we give thanks for the gift of a precious new child and pray for God’s blessing on their life. It is not a baptism and the child may be baptised later on if they or their parents wish it. It is a good option for parents who want to recognise God’s involvement at this very special time, but don’t feel ready to make some of the promises that accompany baptism.

If you are interested in exploring either baptism or a thanksgiving service or both, please come along to one of our services or contact our churchwardens for more information (see our “Who is who” page for details).
